Time to start…

January 4th, 2007

At the close of the year, I always become introspective, looking back, assessing the journey through the past twelve months. If you are like me, it is a time for reflection, repentance and a renewed yearning for growth in grace. Certainly, it is also a time for gratitude as we trace God’s good providence and count the ways He has showered us with loving kindness. How wonderful that God’s mercies are new every morning and His faithfulness remains unchanging. How gracious of our God to promise strength for each day and bright hope for the future.

The first morning of the new year, I woke thinking about Psalm 19. God’s Word is called the law, testimony, precepts, commandment, fear and rules. His Word is perfect, sure, right, pure, clean and true. Thus, it revives the soul, makes wise the simple, gives joy to the heart, enlightens the eyes and provides permanent, reliable principles for living in God’s blessings.

The clearer my view of the law, the more clearly I will see my own sin. Only God’s grace can discern my errors, uncover hidden faults, keep me from presumptuous sin, and break the hold of sin’s dominion. God’s Word is also a cleansing agent, so that the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart might be acceptable to Him.

So, once again, I am starting through the Bible this year, asking God to revive, grant wisdom, fill with true joy, and open my eyes to see the greatness, glory and beauty of Christ.

You might want to join me. There are many good reading plans available. It’s not too late to start. Happy and blessed New Year to you.
